The 1st February is the first day of the celebration of “Imbolc”, the coming of spring! (this period is 1st Feb to 19th March). The theme of Imbolc is of shifting energies into the light and into the new, and we can feel more awakened and more energised as the seasons changing brings new life, new hopes and, new intentions.
The goddess Brigid, who is a warrior and healer, who gives life through fire, and is the protector of fire and wells, walks the earth on the mornings of Imbolc and, with each step she releases warmth and growth into the soil with her fertility and creativity.
So, I need to rewind and start the year properly. Firstly have a look at what the previous year was for you, what was good, what was bad, what I want to carry forward, what you don’t want to bring with you, and of course what you want from the “new” year? What intentions do you have?
CELEBRATE IMBOLC
Flowers are essential for Imbolc and also herbal waters. Place flower arrangements around your house and on your alter (if you use one). Use the herbal water to cleanse your house and alter whilst giving thanks to Imbolc for the new beginnings. Leave offerings outside of sweet treats for Brigid such as cream, honey, strawberry’s or cake. It is said that you can retain your looks and not age for this year, by washing your face in the herbal water you have used, which you can make more powerful by leaving it outside overnight, with your offerings to Brigid, then in the morning use it straight away. You can also make talismans for fertility, creativity, or good luck and ceremony with these during Imbolc, and give thanks to Brigid and ask her for her support and strength with the one you want.
